Joe Frazier, on the right in this photographt, was an Olympic Gold Medalist and World Heavyweight Champion. Before that, Frazier received his first boxing lesson in a Police Athletic League boxing ring. The Twenty-Third district PAL facility served as a training facility for many professional boxers, including Bennie Briscoe, Joe Frazier, Bobby Watts, and others. In this 1972 photograph Frazier poses with PAL kids and Joseph O’Neill, then the commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department.
