This stock certificate entitled the shareholder to one share in the Bank of North America for 100 United States Dollars. In exchange for their money, shareholders received partial ownership in the bank. In exchange for giving up a portion of ownership the bank received capital in the form of cash that it could lend out. The certificate has an artistic depiction of Lady Liberty in the center, with portraits of George Washington and Robert Morris alluding to the bank’s founding years during the Revolutionary War.
