In an illustration published in Harper’s Magazine in 1904, Elizabeth Shippen Green depicted herself, Jessie Willcox Smith, Violet Oakley, and other friends on the grounds of the Red Rose Inn. The illustration accompanied a poem, “Inscriptions for a Friend’s House,” by Germantown-born poet Henry Van Dyke.
