The Lit Brothers building, which is actually a cluster of formerly separate commercial buildings, illustrates how a wide range of building materials can be fashioned into similar forms. Some of the buildings in the center of the complex are constructed with cast iron facades, while others are of stone. During 1893-1907, the firm of Collins & Autenreith designed the corner buildings with brick, terra cotta, and galvanized iron on a steel frame in order to provide the department store, Lit Brothers, with a unified block-long building. Today, the entire building has been rehabilitated and transformed into office use.
